Short Stories

NEW! Two of my new short stories will be published late in 2013: "Home for the Holidays," in Ellery Queen's Mystery Magazine, and "Yuletide," in The Strand Magazine.

I enjoy writing short stories as a break from writing about my series characters. In the case of all my short stories, I had an idea that just would not go away, but that did not fit either of my series.

My short story, "The Bartender," appears in the mystery anthology CHESAPEAKE CRIMES II. Editors: Donna Andrews and Maria Lima.

My short story, "The Lockbox," appears in CHESAPEAKE CRIMES 3 with a forward by Sujata Massey.

And my short story, "Bookworm," appears in CHESAPEAKE CRIMES: They Had It Comin' with a forward by Katherine Neville.

CHESAPEAKE CRIMES II received FOUR nominations for the Malice Domestic Agatha Awards. Marcia Talley won for "Driven to Distraction." Two stories from the first CHESAPEAKE CRIMES anthology were nominated for 2004 Agatha Awards: "Wedding Knife" by Elaine Viets was the winner. "Wedding Knife" also won the Anthony Award, presented at Bouchercon 2005.

Update June 29, 2011:  My story "Bookworm" from CHESAPEAKE CRIMES: They Had It Comin' has been nominated for a Macavity Award for best short story.
